Saddles
Hilason saddles fall into three build styles. A traditional tree saddle is built on a rigid tree that spreads the rider's weight across the horse's back when the tree fits. A flex tree saddle uses a tree with bars that give with the horse's movement. A treeless saddle has no rigid tree and relies on its panels and a suitable pad to protect the back. Materials vary by model, so check each listing for what the saddle is made of. Our guide Treeless vs Flex Tree vs Traditional Tree Saddles explains which suits which horse.

Saddle pads and saddle blankets
A pad protects the horse's back and helps the saddle sit evenly. Thicker wool felt pads add cushioning under a western saddle; woven wool saddle blankets are often layered over a pad or used alone under a well-fitting saddle. Treeless saddles usually need a pad designed to protect the spine. Bareback pads let you ride with no saddle while keeping a layer between you and the horse.

Horse blankets, sheets and fly sheets
Turnout blankets are waterproof, filled blankets for horses living outside in cold weather; turnout sheets are the same outer shell with little or no fill, for rain and wind. Stable blankets are for use indoors. Fly sheets are light mesh sheets that keep flies off in warm months. Blankets are sized by measuring from the center of the chest, around the side, to the point of the buttock.
| Category | Price range (Oct 2026) | Shop |
|---|---|---|
| Winter and turnout blankets | $64.99 to $169.99 | Turnout blankets |
| Turnout sheets | $67.99 to $238.95 | Turnout sheets |

Headstalls, bridles, bits and reins
Headstalls and headstall sets
A headstall is the leather part of a western bridle that holds the bit. Many riders buy a matching headstall and breast collar set so the tack looks uniform. Choose by horse size (pony, cob, horse or full) and by style, from plain working leather to tooled and decorated show pieces. Headstalls: $12.99 to $139.99 (western headstalls). Headstall and breast collar sets: $32.95 to $499.95 (headstall and breast collar sets).
Breast collars
A breast collar attaches to the saddle and stops it sliding back on hills, in speed events or when roping. Fit matters: it should sit above the point of the shoulder without restricting the windpipe. Price range: $22.95 to $248.99. Shop breast collars or read our breast collar guide.
Bridles, bitless bridles and halters
Bridles and halters: $29.95 to $297.99 (bridles and halters). Bitless bridles control the horse through pressure on the nose and head instead of a bit, and suit horses that go well without one: $27.99 to $89.99 (bitless bridles). Halters and lead ropes for everyday handling: $17.95 to $129.99 (halters and lead ropes); lead ropes alone $13.95 to $44.00 (lead ropes).
Bits
Snaffle bits act by direct pressure and are the usual starting point for young horses and two-handed riding. Curb bits use shanks and a curb strap for leverage and are common in finished western horses ridden one-handed. Gag and hackamore bits are specialist options. Choose by mouth width and by what your horse already goes well in. Bits are final sale (see Returns and policies).
- All bits and accessories: $8.95 to $219.95 (horse bits)
- Snaffle bits: $14.99 to $219.95 (snaffle bits)
- Curb bits and curb straps: $8.95 to $190.99 (curb bits)
- Gag bits: $21.95 to $54.99 (gag bits)
- Hackamore bits: $37.99 to $74.95 (hackamore bits)
Reins, nosebands, tie downs and wither straps
Split reins suit neck-reining and two-handed work; a one-piece roping or barrel rein is easier to hold in speed events. Reins: $10.95 to $149.95 (western reins). Nosebands and tie downs: $16.95 to $81.95 (nosebands and tie downs). Wither straps: $24.99 to $149.95 (wither straps).
Cinches, stirrups, saddle bags and saddle parts
Cinches and girths
The cinch (western) or girth (English) holds the saddle on. Measure your current cinch or the horse's girth area and choose a length that lets the buckles sit evenly on both sides; the cinch material affects grip and comfort, so check each listing. Price range: $14.95 to $128.95. Shop cinches and girths.
Stirrups, fenders and stirrup leathers
Stirrups and tack accessories: $6.95 to $104.99 (stirrups). Replacement saddle fenders and stirrup leathers: $18.99 to $149.95 (fenders and stirrup leathers).
Saddle bags and trail packs
Saddle bags attach behind the cantle or to the horn to carry water, food and gear on trail rides. Pick by capacity and by how it attaches to your saddle. Price range: $16.99 to $209.99. Shop saddle bags and trail packs.
Saddle accessories, repair parts, conchos and spurs
- Saddle and tack accessories: $7.95 to $214.95 (saddle accessories)
- Saddle and tack repair parts: $12.99 to $76.80 (repair parts)
- Western conchos for saddles, tack and leathercraft: $6.99 to $319.99 (conchos)
- Western spurs: $24.95 to $130.99 (spurs); spur straps $15.95 to $149.95 (spur straps)
Leg protection and fly masks
Boots and wraps protect the lower legs from knocks and strain. Splint boots guard the inside of the cannon bone, bell boots cover the hoof and heel bulbs, skid boots protect the fetlocks of horses that slide or stop hard, and sport boots give general support. Fit is by size and by the horse's leg circumference; check each listing's size chart.
| Category | Price range (Oct 2026) | Shop |
|---|---|---|
| All leg and hoof protection | $8.95 to $209.99 | Leg and hoof protection |
| Sport boots | $23.95 to $209.99 | Sport boots |
| Splint boots | $26.95 to $166.95 | Splint boots |
| Bell boots | $17.95 to $104.95 | Bell boots |
| Skid boots | $26.95 to $120.99 | Skid boots |
| Polo and standing wraps | $14.95 to $99.95 | Polo wraps |
| Fly masks | $17.95 to $49.49 | Fly masks |
