Frequently Asked Questions

What is a combination elevator bit and how does it work?

A combination elevator bit blends snaffle and leverage control in one piece. The O ring design allows you to attach reins in multiple positions, giving you flexibility to adjust leverage based on your horse's responsiveness and training needs. The medium port provides tongue relief while encouraging proper mouth alignment, making it versatile for training, flatwork, and varied riding disciplines.

Is this HILASON bit made from real stainless steel?

Yes. The mouthpiece and shanks are constructed from high-quality stainless steel, which resists rust and corrosion through years of daily riding and regular use. Stainless steel naturally resists degradation and requires minimal maintenance compared to other materials. Simply rinse after use and dry with a soft cloth.

What size horse does this bit fit?

The mouthpiece is 5.5 inches wide with 7-1/4 inch shanks, designed for medium-sized horses. Always measure your horse's mouth width to confirm proper fit before purchasing. The bit should fit snugly without pinching the corners of the mouth.

Is this bit good for training or just for riding?

This combination elevator bit is excellent for training, flatwork, hacking, jumping, and daily barn use. The balanced pressure distribution across the nose, bars, mouth corners, curb, and poll makes it suitable for training sessions and working situations where clear communication and responsive handling are essential.

Will this bit help my horse with tongue pressure issues?

Yes. The shaped, ergonomic medium port mouthpiece is specifically contoured to relieve tongue pressure on horses with larger tongues or evasion issues. This design can result in softening in the mouth and more responsive listening to your cues, making it ideal for horses that need tongue relief.

How do I attach the leather strap to my bridle?

The leather strap comes pre-attached to the bit. Simply integrate it into your existing bridle hardware or use it with a new bridle that has compatible attachment points. The strap design allows secure, easy bridle connection without requiring additional tools or modifications.
