Frequently Asked Questions

What is a treeless western saddle and how does it differ from a traditional saddle?

A treeless western saddle eliminates the rigid wooden or synthetic tree structure, allowing the saddle to flex with your horse's back movements. This design reduces pressure points, accommodates a wider range of horse shapes and sizes, and promotes natural movement and back muscle engagement compared to traditional fixed-tree saddles.

Is the Hilason treeless saddle good for trail riding?

Yes, this treeless saddle is ideal for trail riding and pleasure outings. The 4-way flexibility reduces pressure and allows your horse to move naturally during extended rides. The lightweight construction (26 lbs approx.) minimizes fatigue, and the design accommodates horses with challenging back shapes, making it excellent for all-day trail use.

What horse sizes does this treeless saddle fit?

This saddle fits horses with 6 to 8 inch gullet sizes. The treeless design is particularly advantageous for horses with high withers, wide shoulders, or unusual back conformation that are difficult to fit in traditional saddles. Since there is no rigid tree, the saddle flexes and adjusts to different back shapes naturally.

How is this saddle constructed and what materials are used?

This Hilason treeless saddle is hand-made one at a time using top quality full grain harness leather. The seat features a hand-tooled black rough-out leather design with hand-finished detail. It includes leather-covered stirrups and comes with matching front and rear cinch straps. The hand-made construction and durable leather ensure years of reliable performance.

Is this saddle lighter than traditional western saddles?

Yes, at approximately 26 pounds, this treeless saddle is lighter than traditional western saddles with heavy wooden or synthetic trees. The reduced weight decreases strain on both horse and rider during long trail rides and everyday barn use, making it an excellent choice for endurance activities.

What is included with this treeless saddle?

This saddle comes complete with leather-covered stirrups, matching front and rear cinch straps, and a 14 inch hand-tooled black leather seat. The saddle is ready to use for trail riding and pleasure outings. Verify exact specifications for your specific gullet and horse fit before purchase.
