Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a treeless saddle different from a traditional western saddle?

A treeless saddle has no rigid wooden or synthetic tree structure, allowing it to flex and adapt to your horse's natural movements. This reduces pressure points, enables better shoulder movement, and accommodates a wider range of back shapes including high withers and wide shoulders. The Hilason treeless saddle weighs 21 lbs - lighter than traditional saddles.

What size gullet does this Hilason treeless saddle fit?

This treeless saddle fits horses with a 6 to 8 inch gullet. Because the treeless design is flexible, it adapts better to different back shapes than traditional saddles, making it suitable for horses that have been difficult to fit with conventional saddles.

Is the Hilason treeless saddle good for trail riding?

Yes, this treeless western saddle is ideal for trail riding, endurance riding, and pleasure riding. The flexible design reduces fatigue for both horse and rider on long rides, and the 5-inch cantle with black smooth seat provides secure positioning. It comes with a matching front cinch strap.

Is this Hilason saddle handmade?

Yes, all Hilason saddles are handmade one at a time using traditional leatherworking methods. The hand-tooled dark brown leather and detailed construction reflect skilled craftsmanship built for durability without premium pricing.

What leather is used in this treeless saddle?

The Hilason treeless saddle is constructed with hand-tooled full grain harness leather in dark brown, with a black smooth leather seat. Full grain harness leather resists wear and develops a richer patina with use, making it ideal for trail riding and hard daily use.

Can this treeless saddle be used for barrel racing?

This Hilason treeless saddle is designed for trail riding, pleasure riding, and endurance riding. The treeless design offers flexibility and natural movement, which benefits various riding disciplines. Check product details for confirmation of your specific riding use.
