Frequently Asked Questions
How do I measure my horse for a fly sheet?
Measure your horse from the center of the chest, along the side of the body to the tail. For example, if your horse measures 76 inches, size 75 or 78 inches will fit best. Hilason manufactures sizes 66, 69, 72, 75, 78, 81, and 84 to cover all ranges. When in doubt, choose the next size up for comfort and freedom of movement.
What is the difference between a fly sheet and a turnout blanket?
A fly sheet is a lightweight mesh garment designed for warm months to block insects and UV rays while allowing maximum airflow. A turnout blanket is a heavy-duty cover for cold weather that provides warmth and water resistance. Fly sheets protect from external pests; turnout blankets provide insulation. They serve different purposes and should not be used interchangeably.
Is this Hilason fly sheet made from real materials?
Yes. This Hilason fly sheet is constructed from high-quality poly/nylon mesh material chosen for breathability and durability. The mesh blocks insects and UV rays while maintaining airflow. Double buckles, closures, and leg straps are reinforced at pressure points to withstand regular summer use.
Can I use this fly sheet for pasture turnout in hot weather?
Yes. This Hilason fly sheet is specifically designed for summer pasture turnout. The breathable mesh allows continuous air circulation, preventing overheating while protecting your horse from flies, mosquitoes, and harmful UV rays during extended grazing in warm conditions.
What sizes are available for this fly sheet?
This Hilason fly sheet is manufactured in sizes 66, 69, 72, 75, 78, 81, and 84 inches. It features an expandable design with extra material at the front legs to accommodate varied measurements. Choose your closest size based on chest-to-tail measurement.
How durable is this fly sheet for daily barn use?
Hilason fly sheets are built with industry-standard poly/nylon mesh and reinforced at pressure points where stress concentrates during movement and grazing. This construction allows the sheet to withstand multiple seasons of regular summer turnout use while maintaining UV protection and insect-blocking performance.
