Frequently Asked Questions

What size is this saddle pad and what horses does it fit?

This contoured saddle pad is a standard 28 by 26 inches, offering comprehensive coverage under most western saddles. The contoured design conforms to horses' backs of varying builds. For exact fit confirmation, compare these measurements to your saddle's underside and your horse's back width. If unsure, contact us with your horse's breed and size.

Why is the anti-slip design important for western saddle pads?

The anti-slip base prevents your saddle from shifting forward, backward, or sideways during riding. This is critical for trail riding and ranch work where balance and security matter. A pad that slips can create pressure points, reduce rider control, and endanger both horse and rider. Hilason's anti-slip design keeps everything stable.

What does contoured mean and how does it help my horse?

Contoured means the pad is shaped to match your horse's spine and shoulder structure, rather than being completely flat. This design distributes your weight evenly across the back, reduces painful pressure points on the withers and spine, improves your horse's comfort and responsiveness, and allows better movement. Contoured pads are ideal for trail riding and daily use.

Is this saddle pad handmade and what materials are used?

Hilason saddle pads are crafted with quality construction using heavy-duty felt material throughout. The felt provides excellent shock absorption and cushioning without premium pricing. The anti-slip base is engineered for secure grip. Made in the USA, each pad is built for durability through seasons of daily barn use and trail riding.

Can this saddle pad be used for barrel racing and other western disciplines?

Yes, this contoured saddle pad is designed for trail riding and works well for a range of western disciplines. The contoured design, anti-slip base, and heavy-duty felt construction provide the security and comfort needed for barrel racing, ranch work, trail riding, and everyday saddle protection.

How do I care for and maintain this western saddle pad?

Spot-clean the Royal Blue exterior with a damp cloth and mild soap, then air dry. Brush off dried sweat and dirt after rides. The heavy-duty felt interior is durable and designed to withstand regular use without special treatment. Avoid machine washing or soaking. Store in a dry location. Proper care extends the pad's life through many seasons of use.
