Frequently Asked Questions
What is a self-healing cutting mat and why does it matter for leather work?
A self-healing cutting mat has a surface that recovers from blade cuts, preventing permanent grooves and scoring. This keeps your work surface flat and true, reducing blade drift and measurement errors during saddle repair, pattern cutting, and leather tooling. The Angelus mat's self-healing material extends the mat's usable life significantly compared to standard cutting boards.
Can I use this cutting mat for saddle repair and leather restoration?
Yes. The Angelus 9x12 self-healing cutting mat is designed specifically for saddle makers, leatherworkers, and tack repair professionals. The extra-thick, durable surface handles repeated cutting pressure from utility knives and rotary cutters used in saddle restoration, panel cutting, and hand-tooling work.
What are the dimensions and does it have both inch and centimeter measurements?
The mat measures 9 inches x 12 inches. It features a dual-sided measurement grid with centimeters printed on one side and inches on the other, eliminating the need to switch between measurement tools during pattern layout and cutting work.
How long will the grid markings stay visible on this cutting mat?
The Angelus mat uses high-contrast printing with white grid lines and numbers on the black surface. This design keeps markings clearly visible even after years of intensive professional use. The self-healing surface won't degrade the printed markings like standard mats would.
Is this mat suitable for professional saddle making and leather crafting studios?
Yes. The extra-thick construction and self-healing technology make it ideal for high-volume leather work in professional environments. Saddle makers, leather toolers, and tack repair shops trust this mat for daily precision cutting and pattern work without the wear degradation of standard cutting boards.
