Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a wonder gag bit and a regular snaffle bit?
A wonder gag bit adds a gag mechanism that applies gentle pressure to the poll via the cheekpieces, providing more responsive control and adjustable leverage compared to a fixed snaffle. The sweet iron snaffle mouthpiece keeps the softer communication of a snaffle while adding the quick-response capability of gag action. Ideal for advanced training where you need more control than a snaffle alone.
Will this wonder gag bit work for my horse with a large tongue?
Yes. This Hilason wonder gag bit features a shaped mouthpiece specifically designed to relieve tongue pressure, making it well-suited for horses with large tongues or horses that evade tongue pressure. The relief design reduces discomfort and promotes softness and responsiveness in the mouth.
How do I clean and maintain this stainless steel horse bit?
This wonder gag bit has a smooth, simple surface construction that makes cleaning easy. Rinse it with water and a soft cloth after each ride to remove dirt and saliva. Stainless steel naturally resists rust and corrosion, so regular rinsing and air drying is all the maintenance needed to keep it in peak condition.
Does the sweet iron snaffle encourage salivation?
Yes. Sweet iron naturally encourages horses to salivate, which keeps the mouth soft and responsive. Increased salivation improves bit acceptance and promotes relaxation, enhancing communication between rider and horse. This is one of the key benefits of sweet iron mouthpieces.
What size horse or riding discipline is this bit suitable for?
The 5 inch mouthpiece and 7 1/2 inch cheeks fit most horses in western, English, and mixed-discipline riding. The wonder gag mechanism is ideal for training, performance riding, and advanced riders seeking responsive control. It works well for any discipline where mild to moderate leverage and quick responsiveness are beneficial.
Is this wonder gag bit made from real stainless steel and will it rust?
Yes, this Hilason wonder gag bit is constructed from stainless steel, which resists rust and corrosion. Stainless steel is durable and maintains peak condition through years of regular use in various weather conditions and moisture exposure without requiring special maintenance or rust treatment.
