Frequently Asked Questions

What is a curb strap used for on a western bridle?

A curb strap rests under the horse's chin and applies pressure when the curb bit is engaged, providing additional control and improving bit communication. The flat latigo leather design distributes this pressure evenly to minimize chin irritation during riding and training.

Is Hilason latigo leather authentic and durable?

Yes. This curb strap is hand-crafted from top quality latigo leather, prized for durability and resistance to cracking in varied climates. The burgundy finish maintains its appearance through regular use and develops a natural patina over time.

What width curb strap do I need for my western bridle?

This curb strap is 5/8 inch wide, providing optimal balance between security and comfort for standard western bridles. Check your existing bridle specifications or consult a local tack shop if you are unsure about the correct width for your setup.

Can this latigo leather curb strap be used with any western bridle?

Yes. The 5/8 inch latigo leather curb strap is compatible with standard western bridles used for pleasure riding, training, and ranch work. It works across multiple riding disciplines and pairs well with most western tack setups.

How do I care for hand-crafted latigo leather tack?

Clean regularly with a damp cloth to remove dirt and sweat. Condition with leather conditioner occasionally to maintain suppleness and prevent cracking. Allow to air dry naturally. The latigo leather develops a natural patina with use, which actually protects the material.
