Frequently Asked Questions

What is a curb strap and why do I need one with my western bridle?

A western curb strap attaches under the horse's chin to a curb bit, distributing pressure evenly and providing responsive control. The nickel plated chain in this Hilason curb strap allows clear communication between rider and horse, making it essential for responsive handling in trail riding, ranch work, and western disciplines.

Is this Hilason curb strap made from real leather?

Yes, this western curb strap is crafted from full grain harness leather, which is the highest quality leather used in saddle and tack making. Full grain retains the leather's natural strength, durability, and develops a rich patina with use and proper care over time.

Will the 5/8 inch width fit my horse?

The 5/8 inch width accommodates most horse breeds and sizes, including quarter horses, paints, and thoroughbreds. It rests comfortably under the chin without pinching. If your horse has an unusually narrow or wide face, measure the chin area before purchase to verify proper fit.

Is this western curb strap handmade?

Yes, all Hilason curb straps are handcrafted one at a time, ensuring consistent quality control and attention to detail throughout the tack-making process. Each piece is individually crafted using full grain harness leather and nickel plated hardware for professional quality at accessible pricing.

What riding disciplines can I use this western curb strap for?

This western curb strap is ideal for trail riding, ranch work, barrel racing, western pleasure, and general horsemanship. The full grain leather and nickel plated chain provide the responsive control needed for daily riding across all western disciplines.

How do I care for the full grain leather on this curb strap?

Clean regularly with a dry cloth to remove dirt and dust. Use leather conditioner every few months to maintain suppleness and prevent cracking. The full grain leather develops a natural patina with use and proper care, improving both appearance and performance over time.
