Frequently Asked Questions
What is a high port training bit used for?
A high port training bit like this Bar H Equine model is designed for riders developing responsive communication, improving lateral control, and establishing better ground manners. The high port design provides clear signals during training without unnecessary harshness, making it ideal for groundwork and mounted training in English and western disciplines.
Is the mouthpiece really stainless steel and does it rust?
Yes, this training bit features a stainless steel 5-inch mouthpiece that resists corrosion and rust. Stainless steel maintains durability through daily use, weather exposure, and barn storage, requiring minimal maintenance compared to other materials.
What do black sweet iron rings do on a horse bit?
Black sweet iron rings have a pleasant, slightly sweet taste that naturally encourages horses to salivate. This promotes relaxation and a softer, more responsive mouth during training. Salivation helps the bit feel more comfortable and responsive to subtle rider cues.
What does swivel shank mean on a training bit?
A swivel shank mechanism allows the bit rings and shanks to move independently, enabling smoother hand-to-mouth communication. This reduces pressure on the corners of the horse's mouth and enhances lateral control during training, making the bit more responsive to subtle directional cues.
Can I use this bit for riding or only for groundwork?
This high port swivel shank training bit is suitable for both groundwork and mounted training in English and western disciplines. The swivel shank design and stainless steel construction make it effective for responsive communication during all training phases.
What size horse does this training bit fit?
The 5-inch mouthpiece fits most horses. However, bit fit varies by individual horse mouth size and shape. If your horse has an exceptionally large or small mouth, consult an equestrian professional or measure the current bit your horse uses for comparison.
