Frequently Asked Questions
What is a treeless saddle and why would I use one instead of a traditional western saddle?
A treeless saddle has no rigid wooden or synthetic frame. Instead, it flexes and molds to your horse's back shape, reducing pressure points and allowing greater freedom of movement. Treeless saddles are ideal for horses that are hard to fit with traditional saddles, including high-withered or wide-backed horses, and for riders who want a lighter, more responsive saddle for trail riding and ranch work.
Is this Hilason treeless saddle hand-tooled and made from genuine leather?
Yes. Each saddle is hand-crafted one at a time using top-quality full grain harness leather. The basketweave pattern is hand-tooled and finished in medium dark brown. Genuine full grain leather and hand-tooled construction provide durability and classic western style without the premium price tag.
What horse sizes and shapes does this treeless saddle fit?
This saddle fits gullet sizes of 6 to 8 inches and adapts to a wide range of horse shapes and sizes. The flexible treeless design makes it ideal for horses with high withers, wide shoulders, or unusual conformation that are often difficult to fit with traditional saddles. Its adaptability works for quarterhorses, gaited horses, and horses with varying back shapes.
What is included with the Hilason treeless saddle set?
The complete tack set includes the treeless saddle with anti-slip stirrups, a matching hand-tooled bridle, a tooled leather saddle collar, and a front cinch strap. Everything needed to start trail riding is included; no additional purchases required.
Is this saddle suitable for trail riding and what is its weight?
Yes, the Hilason treeless saddle is ideal for trail riding, ranch work, pleasure riding, and everyday use. At just 21 lbs with a 25-inch skirt and 5-inch cantle, it is lightweight, reducing rider fatigue on long rides while maintaining stability and security on varied terrain.
How do I care for the hand-tooled leather on this saddle?
Clean hand-tooled leather regularly with a soft cloth and mild soap solution. Allow it to dry naturally away from direct heat. Condition the leather occasionally with quality leather conditioner to maintain suppleness and prevent cracking. Store in a cool, dry place. Regular maintenance preserves the tooling detail and extends the life of your saddle.
